Services

In addition to appearing in court on your behalf, I am also able to correspond and negotiate with police licensing departments, sometimes at considerable cost savings to yourself.

In addition to the areas of work listed on the home page I can give practical advice in a wide variety of circumstances where my practical knowledge and experience of shooting can be helpful. I advise in areas such as club membership disputes, the criteria for shooting ranges and clay grounds and the requirements for ‘good reason’ to have a particular firearm.

I also deal with seizures of firearms and offensive weapons by Border Force where Condemnation Proceedings are being instituted.

If I haven’t mentioned your particular type of problem, but you think I may be able to help you, please email enquiries@brudenellchambers.com and I will let you know. I am usually able to respond to enquiries within 48 hours and can begin work once I have been instructed which involves signing my client care letter and paying the agreed fee. It is important to comply with time limits set by the courts, and to serve a Notice of Appeal in a firearms licensing case within 21 days of receipt of the letter of refusal or revocation. Keep this is mind when considering instructing a lawyer.

I can be instructed by individual member of the public, partnerships and companies under the Bar direct access scheme. For further information regarding direct access to a barrister please see the Bar Council’s Public Access Guidance for Lay Clients. I can also be instructed by your solicitor in the usual way.

Likely Costs

I prefer to charge my clients a fixed fee for their entire case. You then know what to expect. The fee I quote will include travel, hotels and any other incidental expenses.

It is not always possible to quote a fixed fee, and where this is not possible, as a guide, my hourly rate is usually £300 per hour. For court work I charge between £1,000 and £3,000 per day, but this depends on the amount of preparation and work involved, the complexity of your case and a number of other factors. VAT is chargeable on my fees.

Contact me if you would like a quote. It is important to provide as much information as possible so that I can accurately assess the amount of work that will be needed to do your case justice. Without the full details  I cannot give you an accurate quote, or advise you on your chances of success.

I prefer payments to be made by bank transfer, but can accept credit or debit cards in some circumstances. Instructions are only be accepted once payment has been received.

Complaints

If you are dissatisfied with my work you have a right to complain to the Bar Standards Board and the Legal Ombudsman.
