New edition of The Firearms Law Handbook published Summer 2025
A new edition of The Firearms Law handbook will be published in Summer 2025. Written by Nick Doherty and Laura Saunsbury, the well known firearms solicitor, it will cover all of the changes to firearms and licensing law since the last edition was published in 2019. Amongst many new topics it covers in detail the changes made by the introduction of the Statutory Guidance in 2021 and last updated February 2023. New cases concerning where the police can claim Public Interest Immunity in licensing appeals and changes to the Miniature Rifle Range regulations.
As before, the book will be published by Wildy, Simmonds and Hill, the publishing arm of the famous legal bookshop in Lincoln’s Inn. Although a legal textbook, it is very much written for the informed shooter, club secretary, ground or estate owner, RFD and police licensing department. The procedure for obtaining a certificate and RFD is covered, together with the appeals procedure if you are refused or revoked. There are also sections on the laws relating to taking game, borrowing firearms, their use by young persons, and taking guns abroad in light of the fact that the UK has left the European Union. There are few aspects of the regulation of firearms in Britain which are not covered by this book.

“If every licensing department had a copy there might be fewer poor decisions made and I can recommend it for anyone with a need for detailed knowledge of this complex subject. You should certainly buy it if you need to appeal a police licensing decision.”
David Frost, Sporting Gun January 2020
“The authors have succeeded in their aim to comprehensively set out an intricate area of law for both lawyers and non-lawyers; it is a compulsory read for the responsible firearm owner and a handy foundation for practitioners.”
